October 31 - what are you looking at?

This might be called Slip up Saturday as we look at all of the favored teams just trying to survive one more week.  Grab a drink and snuggle up with your girlfriend there will be some excitement this weekend.  Fat girlfriends optional unless you are in Lubbock (see link)

11:00 Indiana at #4 Iowa, ESPiN
Iowa’s chances for an undefeated season are in question now more than ever.  They have to replace their leading rusher, adam Robinson with freshman Brandon Wegher.  Not a huge loss for the 90th rushing offense in the country.  Both teams come in pretty even on offense averaging 23 point per game, but defense wins championships.  The Hoosiers are giving up 26 ppg while the Hawkeyes are allowing just over 14.  Indiana is 1-3 on the road this year and their humiliating 47-7 blowout by Virginia is a puzzlement.

Pick: Vegas says Iowa by 18.  I don’t think the difference will be that much.  I’m picking Indiana and the points.

2:30 Georgia vs #1 Florida, CBS
The Dawgs come into this one wounded, last in the SEC in rushing and 119th (next to last) in turnover margin for all of college football.  Their averaging 27 ppg and allowing 27.7.  In SEC games Florida has averaged 26 ppg and allowed just 12.  The Gators are #1 in Pass Efficiency Defense and will give the Dawgs fits since they don’t have a run game to speak of.  You’ll get another heavy dose of running the ball by the Gators this weekend.   The game behind the game is that Tim Tebow has tied former Georgia great Herschel Walker’s rushing TD record.  Urban Meyer will want him to break the record against Georgia and the Dawgs definitely don’t want that.

Pick: Florida is favored by 15.  Neutral field.  Grudge match.  Target on their backs.  I’m picking the Dawgs and the points.

7:00 #3 Texas at #14 OSU, ABC
There’s no doubt that that both of these teams can put some points on the board.  They are averaging 41 (Texas) and 37 (OSU) per game. The question is can they tackle?  For Texas the answer is yes, for OSU the answer is sometimes.  OSU has had some spark on defense and if they have a chance they are going to need it.  Texas offense will most likely shred the Pokes 106th ranked passing defense in this “first one to 50 wins” game.

Pick: Texas is favored by 9.  And on the only night of the year that it’s acceptable to wear either team’s ugly colors and even though I’m picking against my 3 way tie big 12 south prediction from the beginning of the season, I don’t think OSU’s D can do it.  My money’s on the whorns to cover.

OK.  At least someone looks good in that ugly orange color…
