Flags, Fumbles and Merkins - Oh my! OU-BYU Recap
BYU 14 Okla 13
So I was already concocting my excuse to tell my die hard "never leave before the game is over" inlaws for leaving the Idaho State game early after the blow out commenced. And all of a sudden, it's interesting and even in doubt.
The suspect Oklahoma Offensive Line that as recently as a month ago Kevin Wilson was telling us not to worry about the offensive line http://www.riotboard.com/2009/coordinator-defends-sooners-offensive-line-labeled-as-a-question-mark/
and as recently as recently as last week was telling us how they came together and were committed to success

by all acounts with a prevailing North wind could have been smelled from Arlington to okc.
It's almost like Phil "the drive killer" Loadholt never left. The only difference is that when Phil wasn't killing drives with stupid penalties, he actually blocked. The Sooners were unbelievably sloppy with 15 penalties (only 12 accepted). The hapless offensive lineman Cory Brandon led the charge with charge picking up two holding penalties and three false starts. He will be forever known as Cory "the drive killer" or Five Flags over Brandon.
The Sooners' penalties are not the only thing that blew the game. The fumbles and defense didn't help. After one game, the OU defense is ranked a pathetic 90th in pass efficiency defense and 103rd in pass defense. At least there are 119 teams. OU had two more take aways (4) than BYU (2) but with a rookie qb at the helm, we could use some ball control. Ou was 2 for 11 on third downs.
And finally to young Landry Jones. If we are going to be forced to watch your mug on the jumbotron at Owen Field this weekend, the least you can do is remove that awful merkin from your upper lip.
Have fun and see you Wednesday. The only question I have is which of these flags, symbols of OU's season to come do I buy for the first home tailgate party?
