What are you lookin at? September 6th

Georgia Tech at Boston College 11:00

Sadly enough this is the only game worth watching on the 11 time slot and it’s on ESPN Game plan.  The Ramblin’ Wreck and the Eagles get some early conf action.  Boston College passing offense and special teams were horrible in their 21-0 win over Kent St.  Georgia Tech was hurting in the same areas in their 41-14 beat down of Jacksonville St. Vegas says BC by 7.  I’d take Tech and the points.

Cincinnati at Oklahoma 2:30 ABC

The Bearcats laid the smackdown on Eastern Ky last week.  Expect Oklahoma to get pressure on Dustin Grutza and an O line that allowed 3 sacks last week.  The Sooner secondary will get their first test of the season against the lights out passing attack of Cincinnati.  OU will probably be starting deep in their own territory on a lot of drives because of the Bearcats solid punting game.  Long drives for OU, lots of 3 and outs for Cincy.  Vegas is saying OU by 21.  I’d pick OU to cover

Ole Miss at Wake Forest 2:30 ABC

Wake Forest has won 10 of their last 13 home openers.  The Rebels have lost 4 in a row on the road.  Wake pummeled the Baylor Bears last week and are thinking they deserve that top 25 ranking.  Ole Miss looked like they needed a clinic how to play defense after last week against Memphis.  Memphis put 453 yards on the Rebels last week.  From what I’ve seen from Wake, they are a more balanced team.  Wake’s giving 8.5, but I think it’s a double digit win for the Deacons

Miami at Florida 7:00 ESPN

The line is Florida by 21.5.  Gators are 0-6 in this series.  The only thing you can make of the Gators blowout of Hawaii is that they were a little rusty with a meager 151 passing yards and 58% completion rate.  Some of their routes didn’t look very crisp.  The Canes bring a pretty stout pass defense into town with this young team.  Randy Shannon’s freshmen and sophomores will keep it close for a half, but will be overwhelmed by the depth of Florida.   The U’s QB gets his first intro to big time college football with an L.  I would not bet on this one because I quit betting against the U in the 80’s.

My lead pipe lock of the week is Texas A&M to cover giving up 3 at New Mexico.

As Raj would say, Go Gators!
