Breaking Down the Big 12- Texas Longhorns

109th in pass defense in 2007, 70th in Pass Efficiency Defense and bottom half of the league in punting.  Bright spots on total offense (14) and Rushing Defense (6).  They have a brewing QB controversy and huge hole in the defensive backfield.  With more blue chip, Johnny 5 stars than you can shake a stick at, I present the most underachieving team in the Big 12 (potentially in the country)...

The Texas Longhorns

2007 Season: 10-3, 5-3 Conf

2008 Season: 10-2, 6-2 Conf

Highlights: New D coordinator Will Muschamp has brought a fire to the D and a spring in their step.  Converted RB to DE Henry Melton should help with the putrid pass rush and pass efficiency D #'s.  John Chiles has been impressive at QB  and I think he can challenge Colt McCoy for the starting position.  The powder puff non-conf schedule is a joke.  There's more fight in Brett Vogler's poodle than in their non-conference schedule.

Lowlights:    Other than bringing some intensity, I haven't seen evidence of a whole lot of changes in the Horn secondary.  There doesn't seem to be a clear heir apparent to Jar Jar Charles at RB either.  The Horns were decimated at WR in the offseason with departures by Limas Sweed, Jermichael Finley, Pitman and Jones.

Keys to Success:   Cosby has to step up at WR.  The Secondary has to cover someone and Mack Brown has to quell the brewing QB controversy by benching Colt McCoy, otherwise this is your season:
